dingbat, you are talking about a Grady 226 WA with 20 degrees of deadrise as measured at the transom. Further, the entire configuration of the GW hull/design in question makes the issue more dynamic than simply deadrise angles at the transom.
Back to the OP, who is an inexperienced boater, who referenced a boat and size among other parameters: On a 17' boat (or +/- in that range/budget), I don't recommend 20 degrees of deadrise. In that range of boat, we are looking at steeper degrees of deadrise to counter the loss of mass in affording a better ride/experience.
