Hello this is my first post so bare with me. I have a 2011 MFI custom signal axel (3000) lbs axel holding my Monterey 184fs (2800) lbs. the dealer hasn't returned my calls so I am on my own. the shackle's don't always bottom out just once in a while. When I put the boat in the water the trailer jumps up and the shackles go back to normal they are a 5 pack and I don't know there weight rating I was wondering on getting longer leaf spring shackles what do ya all think

I think you should post a picture of your problem shackles. We might be able to help you better. Take a pic of them when the boats on the trailer and after you launch it so we can see the diff.

Might just be too much boat for the trailer.

Instead of the axle rating, give us the carrying capacity. And yes, photos might help.

With a 2800# boat on a 3000# trailer it is most definitely overloaded. Ya see -- the trailer itself (minus unsprung weight like wheels and tires) is weight carried by the springs. So the trailer frame, tongue, springs, and everything you put into the boat including gas, oil, gear, and the engine (if an outboard) adds to that number. Shackles under no circumstances should bottom or even come close to bottoming (reaching their travel limit).

IMG_2915 (2).jpgIMG_2914 (2).jpgIMG_2917 (2).jpgIMG_2916 (2).jpg here are some picks of my problem I hope they came out ok. Hope I can just put longer shackles on and be done with it never had this problem last year just stumped. As you can see I had to take my fenders off just in case the shackle bottoms out the tire wont go into the fender again.

Did you check for broken springs?

your trailer is not up to the task of carrying that boat..... go get it weighed.... the weight of the trailer and boat should be under 3000 lbs but I bet its more like 4000 lbs

Where are you getting that from? The trailer tags say GVWR of 3500 with a capacity of 3000. Sounds like he is close, but OK

My guess is the springs need replaced. They are flexing to much. Longer shackles will not fix it.

I got that from his opening post... He stated that it had a 3000 lb axle..... now I see the pic.... can't help someone if they give incorrect info.... I STILL say go get it weighed, and then if the weight comes out ok, replace the springs

Corrosion, were the bolts go through the shackles.
You may want to get the bolts and rubber grommets cleaned up and lubed.

There are no rubber grommets in those. Those bolts are special and specific size shank to match the shackle eyes. Any trailer supply place has shackles and bolts. I had close to the same issue on my jet boat and put longer shackles on them and it rode perfect. See video.

thanks again ya I posted the wrong info the axel tag is 3000lbs I think I am going to order new springs the manufacture of the boat says she weighs 2500lbs with the 4.3 its has in it she holds 26 gallons of gas and there is about 100lbs of gear in it.

I'd STILL weight it.... it's cheap or free and you wouldn't be the first to be surprised... btw battery(s) and any added accys get added too

yes both sets are fine

You said the axle tag says 3000# yet the load capacity tag for the trailer says 3500# and the same tag shows the axle weight rating as 3500# as well. This is wrong in two ways: 1) if the trailer capacity tag is right, then the axle does not have enough load capacity since you said (twice) the tag on it says 3000#. Yes - the boat may weight 2500 but add the fuel and gear PLUS the trailer weight and you are now well over 3000#. 2) GVWR is the all up weight of boat, trailer and stuff. Load capacity is the weight (minus the weight of the trailer). You cannot have a GVWR higher than the rating tag on the axle itself. Actually you can but it makes for an unsafe trailer and likely illegal as well. I feel this trailer is too small for the job and the manufacturer needs to address some label issues. Load capacity is determined by tire capacity, spring capacity, and axle capacity. Any one or more of those can be the weak link in the chain. Bigger tires for example does not increase load capacity unless the other components can handle the increase.

^ also strength of the frame and coupler can be limiting factors
