I have a 2010 Mercury Optimax 150hp motor that has a constant beep beep alarm. It doesn't pause, just steady beep beep beep.. Like the sound a construction vehicle makes when backing up.

Mercury support says it indicates low oil, bad oil pump, or bad oil level sensor.

I looked online and it appears mercury has a defective sensor assembly in their oil reservoir (the one mounted to the side of the engine).

My reservoir is full. When the cap is loose, it overflows, so there is oil pressure. There is 2 gallons of 2 cycle oil in the main oil tank.

Does anybody have other ideas as to what could be wrong, or could somebody confirm that it is probably the faulty oil sensor inside the reserve tank?

Is there a way to fix it without buying a new reserve oil tank? The reserve tank is about $100 and installation looks really easy.

Is there a way to test the sensor in the reserve tank to verify that it is faulty before replacing it? What should the continuity be on the 2 blue wires that come out of the top of the tank?

Thanks for your help !!!
