Hi:

The lower unit on my 1989, 200hp Mercury black max is stuck and I can't free it from the main housing to replace the impeller. I followed the service manual to loosen the 5/8" bolts, etc, but the shaft must have been greased or something to seal it.

I tried to pry the small seam with a screw driver, but, it's leaving a dent in the housing, tried a rubber hammer to free the housing by tapping, pulled, and shook the unit, but I afraid I am going to damage the motor mount.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Joe

Are you SURE that you removed ALL the bolts?

Does your model have a smaller bolt come UP from the bottom from under the rear anode fin?

Yes. I followed the service manual and took out the 9/16" bolt that was under the trim tab.

any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Joe
