I just replaced my 94 9.9 2 stroke with 2009 9.9 4 stroke thanks to someone borrowing the 2 stroke in the middle of the night. Anyhow this thing is gutless. My old motor would have my 67 harbercraft (12')up and planning in less than 10 sec. This 4 stroke after warming up for five min. takes forever and only if I put my gas tank up front move my trolling bat. to the middle and lean forward. I was told buy the store where I bought it to go lower on the pitch from just over 8 to 7.3, with only 10 hrs on it I'm concerned about too high a rpm. When it is finally planing it doesn't have the speed of the 2 stroke. which ran a 9 pitch. Should I wait to put on a few more hrs or take it in for them to look at. It also shudders quite a bit when in slow speed.
Thanks,
Mark

2 stroke, by design, will always outrun a 4 stroke. It will, however, be cleaner, quieter and more fuel efficient. A few more horses would be needed to equal the 2 stroke. You may consider trading up to a 15.

Re: 2009 four stoke

That would be an idea but alot of the lakes I fish are 10hp restricted. Maybe after the warrenty is up some intake manifold and carb work will help.

id break it in first then check what rpm your running and decide what pitch to move too.
