I am looking at an '08 Q4 S/F and was wondering if any info other than what was on Tracker Marines' website was available. They are powered by 3.0L Mercruiser/Alpha drive. I see no reviews have been submitted and understand that is early 2008 but wanted to ask anyway. This is a pretty big decision I am making and want to be somewhat informed.

Re: 2008 Tahoe Q4 Ski/Fish Reviews?

howeird, I have a 2001 Q3 s/f o/b and it originally had a 2000 115 optimax(only made for 18 mo).It has had a 150 efi for the last three years now, granted this is an outboard but having had both engines and able to compare horsepower with this set up. I'd recommend to anyone to get the 4.3 v6 and not the 3.0, unless your not going to use it to ski/tube ect.Even then it's nice to know if I'm on the lake and a storm might be headed my way i have the hp to get off the water fast. This is just my opinion on what has happened to me over the 30 plus years and the look in my family's eye's as were headed up river with lightning in the distance.

I have a '06 Q4 SF with the 4.3. I would highly recommend the 4.3 over the 3.0. You won't be sorry for that decision.

I have the 4.3 190 in a q6, and I'm really pleased, good power, great gas consumption when cruising. In the Q4, that should be a great motor with plenty of reserve power.

Yup...I agree with all subsequent posts. Tahoes are heavy boats and you'll want the larger engine.

Re: 2008 Tahoe Q4 Ski/Fish Reviews?

Thanks for the info everyone. I called Tracker Marine and asked and they said the 2008 Q4 is based on the earlier Q3 and does not have the option of anything larger than the 3.0 liter. It is smaller and lighter than the '07 Q4. 135 is the maximum recomended hp. He said that if I were considering it for wakeboarding or pulling 250 pound skiers I should look at a model with the 4.3L engine. I would be pulling a tube or skiing kids . I like to fish, cruise and explore. It is a stretch to even consider buying a Q4 so anything more expensive would be out of the question. Paul, do you think 20 more hp than what your Q3 originally had would have been sufficient for cruising and tubing?

howeird, Yes and not only hp but torq is involved. Granted mine involved 35 hp but your looking at the added weight of the inboard vs outboard. What I'd do is go to a Taho dealer and test one with each of the motors have it maxed out on the total people & gear especially it your unable to get in the water. Then uses a stop watch and see how long until in plains. Then put the larger people in the back and try it(dealerwill want to keep at least one of these in front at all times). You will see a big difference and the smaller motor will work harder there for use as much it not more gas as the v6.I could have gotten the v6 io in my Q3 ,but with me fishing as much as I do the v6 ob was a better choice. My Taho is my fifth boat and first new one.Hope this helps and good luck

This will be my third boat, first new one. The first was a 1968 Glastron 16' with a 95 hp Mercury. The second one, and I am still using it, is a 1988 Nitro 16' Ski with a 1988 Force 125. 2008 seemed like the right year to upgrade again.

...Tracker (Bass Pro) is offering a closeout discount of 3 grand if you wanted to get the Q4 SF from 07'. Its slightly longer than current 08's and available with 4.3 V6's. Just another thought to consider.

Cheers

Re: 2008 Tahoe Q4 Ski/Fish Reviews?

I just got a used '07 Q4 with the 4.3L. I'm new to boating, so this boat is the perfect fit for me (so far:D). I probably could have gotten a better deal but the guy gave me all his boat stuff (vests, tubes, ropes, bimini top, etc.). He also took me out for a test drive and gave me some tips.

There are some good deals out there on "new" '07s that dealers still have in their inventories.

Good Luck!
