Okay... here I am again. From the beginning now... Engine blew a bearing last year. I rebuilt the engine. After getting it on the boat it seemed one side wasn't firing. I could disconnect the injectors on the port side and it made no difference to the engine RPM. That is now fixed I'm not %100 sure what changed. But now it runs perfect. However... when I get on plane after several seconds a warning buzzer goes off and it goes into limp mode. I connected the software and went for a ride and I see very erratic oil pressure. Also the cam phasers seems very different. One doesn't change much. The port side. And that is throwing code 72. I pumped out the engine oil it seems brownish... black... not what I would expect for basically new oil since the engine rebuild.. only have about an hour on the oil. Oil seems very thin. I am wondering if when the port side wasn't running if that put a lot of fuel in the oil?? So anyway I need to understand why I am getting code 72 and if that is related to erratic oil pressure. I see 25psi one minute.. 45 the next... then single digits!! Tomorrow it's getting a new oil filter and new 10W30. The oil level was about 1/2 way on the dip stick today before I sucked it out. I am really hoping the oil filter is just plugged from a fresh engine rebuild since a bearing went bad [ I did not have a good way to flush the engine ] and that's leading to low oil pressure which is causing the cam phaser 72 code. Anybody care to chime in on any of this?? Thanks1735172834713.png

If it was truly low oil pressure I might think it would affect the other cam shaft drive mechanisms.

Is there no tachometer installed that gives you the reason for the alarm?
Nope. I got on plane with my computer hooked up and even after the alarm went off and it went into limp mode the software didn't really say what was wrong. It logged code 72. Seems ridiculous it can go into limp mode and not log something more than that.. like overheat or low oil pressure.

Not sure what the oil pressure should be reading at certain RPMs, might be too high or too low for the RPM the motor is running.
but I would be worried about not having high enough pressure since you lost a bearing before.
what bearing was it?
and what kind of failure did it have?

Last year I limped home. It sounded BAD. It was obvious a major internal problem had occurred. I did a compression check they all came back about 150 cold. I Took it apart I could see the crank /thrust bearing failed. I got a new crank and did new bearings throughout. I put in a new oil pump as well. Update here… I changed the oil and filter again. After doing this I saw 25 lbs oil pressure at idle. This time it ran on plane no issue for about 1/2 hour before going into limp mode again. Hooked it up to the computer again now it was back to 10 lbs. not good. I’m starting to think becuase I didn’t flush it properly after the major engine failure there’s very fine debris clogging the oil filter. Does this seem plausible? I just changed the filter and oil again. Will try it again tomorrow. Let me know your thoughts. Thx

if there was metal in passages there is a good chance it got into the bearings and oil pump and maybe lots of other places causing damage to them.
I do not believe all the oil flows thru the filter before heading on to other parts of motor.
but I could be wrong

good luck
