I wouldn't use the word "soon" if I were you. It took them 14 years to recall the 1995s! So expect to get your notice in 2021. In the meatime, maybe Ford, Dodge, and Chevy don't look so bad? Their frames don't rust out and their rear brakes might even adjust themselves?

Yeah... I'd rather have a Ford that will burst into flames and burn my house down with it. Or a Dodge or Chevy that was built with my tax money.... yeah, great idea!

I live in the heart of salt use...... it kills everything regardless of brand. Oil undercoating is very popular here and even the Sheriffs's Department does their cruiser's.

I have to admit that I am not as diligent as I could be but whenever I start to feel concerned I have oil sprayed into and onto the frame and inner door panels.

Take a look at my '94 K2500 and you will see whay lack of oil does!! http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=245640&highlight=k2500

I have worked in the automotive industry for many years and am a Service Director , Everything is going to hinge on if the frame has been compromised. If not , It is normal for any steel surface to develop surface rust and "produce" rusty looking water on a clean floor. It is in your best intrest to be polite , not demanding and just be an unsatisfied customer who will PROBABLY never buy a Toyota again ... This goes much further that trying to "b1tch" your way to what you want .. They will write you off as a lost customer and advise you to get a lawyer . Take every option the dealer gives you , refusing a dealers solution will effect the final decision by the rep !! Keep in mind that the dealer already knows if the frame is bad and the rep may have suggested the goodwill undercoating .. If you refuse this it puts the "burden of proof" back on you.... Again you will be told to get a lawyer !!!

forget the NTSB , they will send you a nice letter telling you they are looking into it but until they have at least 5% of registered vehicles complaining of the same thing or several fatal crashes due to the defect all they do is file it and moniter the numbers ... Your tax dollars at work HUH ... The only bright side is if you trade or pay for repairs you will get compensation from Toyota if they do recall the vehicle for your problem !

I feel your pain:
I had an '08 Tundra for 6 months, and it was the worst 6 months of my life. NON-STOP troubles....I used to joke that I was going to put up a sign in my garage that said, "__ days without taking the truck to the dealer"...and then leave the blank spot only big enough for 1 digit, because it never went longer than about 5 days without troubles. 2nd day I owned it the paint started pealing off the hood, the trans started shifting (or maybe slipping) for no reason, and the gauges would all stop working at the same time (this was all with less than 100 miles on the odometer). The dealer, and then the Toyota reps, would either: a)say the problems were normal! b)say I caused the problems through in-appropriate use (how is 100 miles of city driving in-appropriate?) or c)say it wasn't a problem at all ("The gauges worked fine for the 10 seconds we checked them.")
I had a toyota tercel in the '80's that was awesome, but that truck was by far, the worst vehicle I've ever owned.

Better than buying a truck that was built with your parent's tax money (remember who rebuilt Japan after WWII?) and the money goes back to Japan, anyway. But hey, you overpay and do what you want. It's your money, but it's our future.

TW, I hate to tell you but sometimes people buy vehicles not made by the big three. I really don't understand why it offends you so much. Welcome to a global economy.

Not all that money runs back to Japan. Last I checked, Toyota was still building factories and employing us Americans.... while the others keep laying off and using our tax money to survive.

And I don't believe I've over-paid for any of my Toyota's... Actually no foreign manufacture is in Forbe's list of overpriced vehicles... Chrysler tops the list tho: http://www.forbes.com/2009/07/01/overpriced-cars-autos-lifestyle-vehicles-overpriced.html

And just so you know... I own 5 vehicles. 2 Toyota's, 1 Mitsubishi, 1 Chevy, and 1 Olds. 4 of the 5 where built in the US. One has over 85% US content (and its not the Olds or Chevy)

That's funny..... I used to sell Chevrolet's built in Canada and Toyota's built in the USA. My current 2 toyota's were built in Japan and my last VW was built in Mexico. I also sold Nissan's that were built in the USA. Ford has some excellent South American factories. I admit that the Korean Hyundai's have come a long way....... I can not begin to list the countries involved with manufacturing all of the internal components of our "whips" :D

About the only thing I am certain of is the home that I live in...... the original laid up stone foundation and the post and beams are "local" American since Vermont became a State in 1791 and my house was constructed in the 1850's..... I can't find records of who the worker's were ..... but..... I suspect they were Yankee's :D (well given the area/location there may have been a French Canadian involved!!)

A side note..... my Son was made and born in Germany by American's ;)

It really does not make ANY difference where it was made ...... it is how you take care of it!

I bought a 95 Dodge ram 3500 dually form Ohio about 3 years ago. The dealer called the entire frame during a safety inspection. was already repaired in spots. only had 101,000 miles on it.

If I ever bought something new, i would oilguard the crap out of it day one, then every 2-3 years.
