Re: 2007 mercury engine trouble

i was thinking maybe there to small for the filter to catch if ther coming from the tank.
That's not gold anodizing it's alodine and it doesn't flake off. That's really weird, have you called Merc support? It almost sounds like somebody dumped something in your tank or your got some really messed up fuel. I've seen sand and stuff but that usually gets caught in the filter. Hummmm I wonder if a filter disintigrated on you or something. It almost seems like it would have to be after the filter to clog the injectors like that.

Re: 2007 mercury engine trouble

well i sent the injectors out they should be back next week how can i flush the fuel system out to make sure this dont happen again.could i take the fuel line off the injector rail and just supply 12 volts to the pump and and run fresh fuel through im also worred that inside the fuel rail there might be some left over particals. also if it was the pumps bushings or impeller would the particals be on the intake filter of the pump. when i took the vst apart i took the pump out and hooked it up to 12 volt to make sure it was working and it sounded smooth to me.

I'm not sure now, did you find the gold particles in the VST tank too? They could accumulate there from the return side even if they were comming from the inside of the pump. I know that pump is expensive but you might consider changing it or all the injector cleaning and other work your doing might be wasted.

i did find particals in the vst pump fiter and like i said the pump seamed fine when i ran it i hope the pump is ok im going to start with straining the old fuel and see if it has particals in it maybe i can narrow down where they came from.

Re: 2007 mercury engine trouble

so it looks like all the brass fittings are all pitted. theres one on the fuel tank and one thats a bulkhead type that feeds the line through the shell of the boat and the fuel line with the hand pump primer hose is all deterated. i can see all the little gold particals inside the brass fittings im going to replace them with stainless i have used brass before in fuel systems never had a problem like this. i was reading that methanol will eat brass something like the copper acts as a catilist idk i would imagine that would be a high percentage. so ether way should be all set just have to get the injectors back and installed thanks everyone who commeted cant say it was fun but the satifaction of doing it myself and learning the fuel system in and out was sure worth it.

Re: 2007 mercury engine trouble

I had the same problem plus some with my 2007 115hp OPTIMAX. The problem is that the ethenol seperates from the gasoline and eats the fittings and the gaskets. I hope you caught yours in time before it ruined your fuel pumps. The pumps for mine costs $350 a piece and I have two of them. For my repairs it was $900 in parts and $650 in labor and as luck would have it three weeks late my water pump went out another $464.

same gold particals inside injector screens there all cloged. cylinder 1 and 3 the worst also cylinder 1 and 3 spark plugs fowled. im sending the injectors out to a injector shop they say they will test them as they arrive and after there rebuilt and give me a computer print out of the change i hope this is it this time. around 100 bucks to rebuild them (4). im not sure what the gold particals are the only thing it looks like is the gold anodizing on all the aluiminum in the engine maybe its deterorating and comeing off or it was a bad batch of fuel with a high ethonal content i have heard a high percentage can eat aluiminum.

fuelinjectorman.com is $16 ea.
