We purchased a used 2006 Tahoe Q6 a month ago. Last night I turned on the key to check the gas level and today at the lake it wouldn't start. The engine turns over and can smell gas. Seems like it's not firing. Is there anything I can check other than the kill switch and master power switch. They are both on run. We have had no trouble until now. Thanks!

This is just a hunch, based on something very similar that happened to me a while back. Search my name "C-17 Pilot" for a discussion on what I had.

Check for water in the gas tank. A quick fix is to purchase and put a can of SeaFoam in your motor. It's sold at Wal-Mart here locally. I put a can in the tank each time I fill up. In addition, I'm sure you're familiar with StaBil. Try putting in the recommended amount.

Bottom line, to me, it sounds like you got some water in your gas line keeping your engine from igniting. Most likely, you bought some tainted fuel. Now, before I put any gas in my boat, I'll ask the vendor's if the station tanks are less than 1/4 empty (the local Texaco here can tell us). If so, I go to the next station.

Also, since you did by a used boat (like I did), it may be a good idea to check out the fuel filter as well. The previous owner may or may not of changed it out.

I always crank the boat at the house the night before we head to the lake. I don't want to be stuck at the lake with a dead battery or motor that won't crank.

I found my problem. Where the coil wire snaps onto the coil - the coil was broken off at the tip so I need a new one. I have looked on the internet for pricing and it ranges from $135 to $277 for the same coil. That seems ridiculous to me. Does anyone know where I might find a new coil for a fair price? Thanks so much.

I think I would purchase one from autozone for a 5.0 or whatever size engine u have. I cant see how they could be much different than the marine version. You could probably even buy an accell or mallory for alot less than the marine model. If anyone else knows better, they could chime in and probably will. I would wait to hear a few opinions if I were u.

Just get a stock coil. If your worried about moisture throw some silicone around the seams and pack the connection with dielectric grease and have a nice day.

Yep , all you are dealing with is a Chevy engine converted for marine use, which is mainly the water pickup and exhaust manifold on a chevy block.

With the way gas is these days, I only keep store about a quarter tank or less in my Tahoe and use Stabil. It seems to reduce the amount of condensation in the tank.
