Took the boat out last weekend to watch the fireworks being shot off the dam and was idling around the lake (no wake speed) and all of the sudden the motor stopped! I tried to restart (motor would crank but not start unless I applied some throttle). When I tried to place the throttle back in neutral the motor would cut off again. I have the 5.0L Mercruiser and was wondering if it had a IAC valve (Idle Air Control)? All electrical accessories would work fine so I believe the battery is fine and the boat had half a tank of gas in it unless the guage is malfunctioning! I'm going to tinking on it tonight to see what else I can find just wondering a good place to start?

Thanks,
Kevin

I came home from work and jumped right on figuring out the boat...I replaced the fuel filter, and cleaned the airfilter thingy (can't remember the technical name). Anyways neither of this fixed the problem. What is the best way to drain the fuel tank? Thinking draining and refilling to see what happens...any other advice?

Once again, after work I'm having another showdown with the boat from hell. I'm going to put in some dri-fuel just in case maybe the fuel got watered down and see what happens, then I'm going to replace the sparkplugs and gap accordingly. Does anyone know what the plugs should be gapped @?

Re: 2006 Tahoe Q6 won't start! HELP!

I have a 2008 Q6 and had the same problem with a brand new boat. Took it to them and they said the idle screw had never been set. After they set it, I had no other problems starting the motor. When I first start the boat at the dock I have to start the cold engine with a little throttle and let it run while getting everything in order to head out, but after that she starts right up! So I would check your idle screw. I have the 190 4.3 Merc.

There was a problem with some fuel tanks in that the fuel pickup tube in the tank was defective and crack causing to suck air and not pickup fuel. I thought there was a recall .Verify thru a Bass Pro Shop Dealer'

Try topping the fuel tank off with shell gas (no alcohol) treated with seafoam. Let idle at dock for 5-10 min then take for a short run,if you have a friend with a boat have him fallow you. I got a tank of bad fuel in Tennesee once and it was so bad it wiped out my fuel pump(outboard),If I ran it hard and shut it down if vapor locked as well.
