2006 Tahoe Q6 question

I have the opportunity to purchase an 06 Tahoe Q6 fish/ski with the 220 V6, bimini top, tandem trailer, good condition for $10k. I haven't looked at it in person yet and think the price is a little low. Owner said he doesn't know the hours. What should I be on the look out for when I see the boat in person? Certainly I'll take it for a test run but are there any particulars I should check. Maybe this isn't even that great of a deal but seems to be compared to most I've seen online. Thanks.

Re: 2006 Tahoe Q6 question

Have you seen any pics of the boat?

The motor would be my main concern....normal wear and tear on a 6 yr old boat is to be expected. Ask to look at the motor - check the cleanliness of the engine (does it look clean), check the oil (it is new/old).

Check the prop and the sterndrive.

You can reupholster if there are any major tears. Ask how many owners the boat has had?

Tahoe boats don't have hour meters on them, so he is legit on not knowing the hours.

That's interesting that there's no hour meter on the boat. Is there any logic to that? The last few boats I had all had them on the dash and is a big selling point for the vessel either positive or negative.

I've seen some small photos of the boat but will try to see it in person tomorrow & I'll give the engine a thorough checking out. Thanks.

If the price is low, you should invest in a marine mechanic to inspect the engine and driveline--including running the engine and checking compression on all cylinders. He should also address the bellows on the outdrive--often a costly and frustrating repair.

The general boat appearance gives you an indication to the condition of the mechanics--but not always. If it's a 2006 model, it's probably okay. You seldom wear one of these motors out--they usually are replaced because of not being winterized and water froze up.

Re: 2006 Tahoe Q6 question

We bought the same boat last year for $9500 and thought it was a great deal. It was in very good condition. Once we had used it a while I thought it shifted really hard and took it in and found that the shift interrupt switch was wired backwards. The mechanic thought he saw some fire extinguisher residue on the motor but he thought everything looked to be in good shape and he or I never have found any other evidence of fire. When I was looking at the boat, a friend told me to pay close attention to the rub rail and the keel. If they were in good shape then that was a good indicator of overall condition. Mine was and the paint wasn't even worn off of the skeg. So I'd say if you are happy with the condition, it's a pretty good price. Also, if you get it, check into adding Seadek to the swim platform. Makes all the difference in the world, imo.

If that's the 220 hp model then it's fuel injected... the fuel injection module keeps a clock of the engine hours. A dealer with the proper diagnostic analysers should be able to tell you how many hours the engine has on it.
