Hi,

Was running down the river in my '06 Sea Ray 220 with 5.0 mpi, ran great all day, then got a "check engine" warning BUT everything looked fine, great oil pressure, temp at 165, so I shut it off, opened the engine cover, nothing amiss. I could only re-start the engine by putting it in neutral, but once I put it in gear it would die. I could spin the props easily (no obstruction), the fuel tank is almost full, I could rev the engine, but again as I stuck it in gear it would immediately die. This boat is well maintained, MAYBE 230 hours on it, I did change the fuel filter every season BUT not in 2 years as it has been not used much, and all lubes are at proper levels. Thanks

Is this an alpha drive or bravo ?

If alpha would disconnect the shift interrupt switch see if it goes in gear without dying

If it goes in without dying with switch disconnected would think you need a lower shift cable

Another thought to add is when you mention neutral, are you leaving the throttle handle straight up and down not moving it or by pushing in the throttle only button and moving the handle forward?

If moving the handle, there’s a chance you’re overriding the IAC value (idle air control) giving the engine air to start but a failing iac might not be able to keep up stalling the engine going into gear all in which could cause a check engine light with a warning horn too?…

It would be time to have the fuel injected engine system ECM scanned for fault codes to help know for sure.

An option to rent vs buying a scanner should you not want to take the boat to a servicing dealer, https://www.ebay.com/itm/2852525116...e36BGRG9FHodudoEF96lzpsg==|tkp:Bk9SR-CXkKabYg
