Has anyone changed their seawater pump impellar recently? I`m starting my 3rd season and have never changed it. The boat was purchased used with very low hours(30 or so). A friend at work destroyed his impellar on his searay this weekend and it got me to thinking about changing mine. Has anyone got any tips on a kit change or pics? Thanks:)

Unless it is a Bravo option on the outdrive I don't believe you have to worry about a seawater pump.

I believe your safe on worrying about the pump. The Bravos have the rubber impeller in the sea water pump that should be changed yearly. Not a fun job. The fun you won't have to experence, lucky you!

Now I`m confused. I know some bravos and alphas have a seawater pump on the front side of the engine below the engine water pump. I thought the alphas had theirs in the lower unit and that they had to be changed every couple of years?

The outboards have the pump in the lower drive

Ok, mine is the stern drive. The merc manual shows some models in the lower unit and some models with the sea pump on the engine. Mine is the carbureted model. Maybe I`m worried about nothing, as it seems people may not be changing them very often?

Hi, I just picked up on this thread. Is your boat fresh or salt water. The service manager at the marina I purchased my 2001 Celebrity 280 from recommended that this impeller be replace every other season. I am due next spring... don't think I will be tackling that job!!!!

My boat is fresh water only. I`m getting the impression that alot of other boaters may not be changing them every other season.

I replaced mine for the first time last year when we had the engine out. It still looked new and the temp always stayed low. Ours is a 2001 Q7 but it had very low hours when we got it. We did, however, have to replace the water pump on the front of the engine 2 times in the last 4 or so years. This is with mixed salt and fresh water. We flush it very well though, every time we bring it home.

Mynypitboat, I assume your pump was in the lower unit? The one you speak of on the front of the engine is the regular engine circulation pump? From what I`ve been able to tell, the seawater pump can also be mounted on the front of the engine. I don`t see one on my 06 5.0 Q6, so I am assuming the sea water pump is in my lower unit. I`ve been trying to find someone who has done the lower unit, so I can decide if it`s something I want to tackle myself. Thx;)

Ok, I did find a thread on changing an alpha1 gen 2 water impeller on the lower unit and it looks pretty easy. I`m pretty sure, thats what my boat has and will plan on changing it this season. I will post it when I figure how to do it, but it is on a previous post on this forum. Pictures and all. Looks like once you`ve done it once, it`s probably a piece of cake. Thx all.
