Ok, so I purchased a boat from a trusted colleague of mine. When I out it in the water, it ran very rough, spit and sputtered, died a few times. when it would run, if I could get it up over 1,000 rpm, it ran better and would go wot sometimes and cut out like it had a fuel supply issue. Then it was almost like it ran on 3 cylinders at times, limiting rpm to around 4,000.
The boat was stored completely full of treated fuel, however it was 87 oct with ethanol. The motor only has 25 hours on it so it sat a lot.

I found a bad line, due to ethanol related fuel issues. It had deteriorated, was collapsing and caused some debris to get into the fuel filter.
Replaced the fuel line, from the tank to the motor, as this was the only area with the bad line.

I cleaned the vst tank. this looked great when I opened it up, it didn?t have anything in it other than good gas but I cleaned everything anyways. Replaced the main fuel filter, this had hose debris in it, but not a lot. It appears the line was not deteriorated enough to send a lot of particles downstream. I put the boat in the water, it starts, idles, and runs up to about 2500 rpm great. It is amazing at how much better it was. When I run WOT or above 2500 rpm, after about 20 seconds the motor will cut out, losing most power, unless I reduce the throttle input, which prevents it from dying. I had my daughter with, when she pumps the priming ball, which is new, the motor seems to run fine at all rpms and has plenty of power. This led me to thinking it was the low pressure lift pump. I work for a pump company, I pulled the pump, rebuilt it although it looked great. I also tested it with clear lines hooked up to the motors fuel system. It seems great.

I checked the gas tank vent cap, which is working properly. I also checked the anti-syphon valve which is working fine. When I run the boat at mid to high rpm and it cuts out, the priming ball is soft, not collapsed or sucked flat. It is able to pump some gas in it but it?s like it can?t pump enough. If I prime it when its soft after the motor has cut out, it will get firm after 2-3 pumps, as it should. Then I can run wot, get up on plane and after about 10 seconds it will cut out again. anything under 2200-2500 rpm and it runs great.

Here?s the other weird thing. When I first put the boat in, it will run 2-3 times longer at high rpm before cutting out. I don?t know if this is because the motor is cooler or what. Once it cuts out the first time, every time after that when I try and get it up in rpm, it will let me get up to 5500 rpm at wot, then cuts out a few seconds later. This is the same on the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP], 3[SUP]rd[/SUP], 4[SUP]th[/SUP] and fifth attempts.

I have read everything online imaginable and am at a loss, getting extremely frustrated. I cleaned the injectors, let them soak but have not sent them in for a cleaning. They looked like new when I pulled them, having no debris clogged in them. Could this cause the issue? I would think they are fine since the motor runs great as long as the primer ball is being pumped? I thought for sure it would be the low pressure mechanical pump operated off the cam shaft. Another note too, it seems like my oil level is about ?? high on the dip stick and seems to be slightly diluted and smells like exhaust or gas. This also made me think that the lp fuel pump diaphragm had failed and would be the issue but it can?t be because the pump is fine.
