Hi fellas I have the motor above as a kicker and from cold start have trouble first turning it over without a struggle. I have heard that these motors are set from the factory and can be adjusted. If anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Explain,turning over cold?What's it doing?
Need serial#s Electric start? More info?
Hard turning over could be low comp on 1 cylinder to bearings in the lower unit.

Re: 2006 Mercury 9.9 Bigfoot Hard Start

Hi Bob,
If you mean it is hard to pull the starter cord there is a mechanical interlock with the shift linkage that can be adjusted by the cable adjuster nut. If you mean it will not fire when you pull it over, the fuel systems must be maintained, they clog up with any kind of dirt. Be sure the throtle is in the start position and the choke is full on. (don't forget the kill switch) My 05 15hp used to be a bit cranky until
I cleaned the carb. You can adjust the low speed carb adjust but you have to remove a brass plug to get to the adjust screw. Some say not to play with it though. I did mine and it starts and purrs like a kitten. Good Luck!

my 9.9 after 3 hrs of motorsailing just konked out...
