Bilge pump malfunctioned in auto mode while my boat was moored on freshwater lake. Outlet drain was plugged by mistake, pumping freshwater into boat. Water level got up to engine head gasket level before we found it pumped it back out immediately. no sign of water in oil, water did not get to distributor cap, dipstick top, or carb intake. Engine started right up and trailered boat to get out of lake. Checked oil several times the last 3 days, no sign of water in oil (crankcase), and engine still starts right up with no problem, at home on ear muffs, (as before), trim pump still works. Have not looked at anything else yet. As of right now all electrical systems working. Suggestions of what to do to save my engine or what to expect? i.e. tune up, change oil, plugs, power steering pumps, grease etc. Thanks to all!

I left a drain plug out once, for a few minutes, which submerged starter and alternator. I disassembled starter and alternator the next day and used electrical parts cleaner on them, lubed and reassembled. They are still running 5 years later.

Thanks. I hope thats all i may have to replace. Engine block and internals would have been sad! I hope i escaped that. Oil still perfect no sign of water. Starts up on one crank and idles like a kitten purring. Think i lucked up and escaped major damage?

You would have to fill the bilge over engine breathers to harm the motor itself. Electrical issues are about all I would worry about with your event.
