OK, so swapped out the batteries for new ones today, cleaned all the connections and was real happy when I hit the key the first time and it fired right up.

Turned it off, waited a few seconds and hit it again. This time though it just went <CLICK> and nothing else. Pulled the top off and could definitely hear something click when I turned the key.

Went back, checked the fuses and so on and it seems to be getting power. Did notice that when I hit the raise/lower switch I got the same clicking sound.

Outboards are definitely not my specialty, but the 1.5 in cube on the front of the motor seems to be the source of the sound.

Any ideas what is up?

do you have a voltmeter and a few jumper clips or a helper?

then no you cannot check it and the relay is about 98 dollars.
radio shack will sell you a decent digital volt meter with auto ranging, remember otto is your friend, for about 25 dollars and a bag of six jumpers for about 4 bucks.
not hard at all to use especially if you can post some clean pics of the meter.

So then what do I do if I round those up?

then you post a picture of what you rounded up and we wil tell you what leads to place where and when to hit the key and what you should see on the digital readout.
the reason for the pic is to tell you where to set what knobs and what holes to insert what leads.
