Basically, the brake fluid is leaking from behind the hitch ball. Are these systems known to leak?
If so, what components are usually faulty?

Leaking near the actuator area is not a common occurance, although it can occur. Either your resovoir is cracked, cap seal bad, piston seals bad or bad brake line connection from the actuator.

very slow leak occurs at the rubber gasket in the front of the master cylinder? There has been numerous problems with this actuator. Some people successfully replace the seal, others not so lucky. Tie Down can't seem to remedy the situation from what i have read.

Does anybody know where to buy replacement parts? Maybe just the suspect seal?

Now I see, took it apart and see "rust" everywhere. Problem is, the master cylinder is completely exposed to water which will happen when you launch or pick up the boat from the ramp. A design that is going to fail for sure.
So far it looks like I may be able to clean and repair mine....we'll see.

How does a master cylinder get exposed to water when you launch? How far do you back in anyway?

Re: 2005 NITRO WITH TRAILER BRAKES MODEL 70lp ACTUATOR

One place I launch is a dirt ramp that changes in depth and since I fish by myself alot I use a long rope attached to the boat and back in the water usually deeper than most, hit the brake and the boat moves off the trailer with me holding the rope. I then get out and pull the boat back in. So, sometimes I go a little deep, but doesn't rain, mud dust get on these units? Seems like these elements would advance the failure rate of these units. Anyway, I received my new rebuild kit but it looks to me like I can just clean my old one and reuse, we'll see.
Thanks

Water should not be getting into or onto the unit. They aren't made to be submersed at all.

My new-to-me trailer has a Tie Down model 66. The trailer manufacturer says he has to replace the top gasket from time to time and he's sending me one. If that doesn't work, I'm buying a new actuator.

I just replaced my 70 lp master cylinder, bleed the brakes but have not tried them yet. One thing though, usually when i launch the boat i unhook the connector from the truck. This way it saves from blowing the bulbs. This is with previous boat trailers i have owned, but now with this one, can i unhook the elect conn from the truck and the brakes not lockup? Are the lights sealed enough such that they will not leak?

Depends on what lights you have. I never disconnect but I have the type lights that are completely sealed so that when the bulb burns out, you replace the whole assembly.

ok, I just went thru my lights and found that they are supposed to be sealed but it was breached and a big mess so, I removed all the parts, cleaned, added new bulbs and sealed with silicone. So, maybe I don't need to disconnect the connector now.
