Did you check the kill switch wires?

yes, i recently replaced most of the wheels inside the tiller handle where the throtttle cables attatch along with the throttle cables. and i checked the kill switch wires and they looked good. i would try disconnecting the wires and run it to see if thats the issue but then i dont know how would i shut the engine off?

It sounds like a fuel problem. And it's in the carburetor. Get a manual for servicing the carb and set the float correctly. Check for a sign of sticking on the needle too (ring around the cone).

so what do you suggest i do ? take apart the carb and check the float needle? what should i look for? i just dont see how it could be getting stuck if it has a new needle , fresh fuel , and it was cleaned.

I'm reposting - looks like my last post didn't make it. It's possible the float is binding on the shaft that it rides upon. It's also possible the tynes that the needle connects to on the float got bent when handling. Did you set the float level according to the dimension from the carb base as per the manual for the motor? Since you put in a new needle, it's probably won't show signs of sticking - which is a wear ring at the cone tip. Did you use a good soaking in carb cleaner or at least a pressure can and nozzle followed by compressed air to blow out any crud. Do you have a clean fuel filter? If all of this fails, you could have what MH Hawker suggested, a heating up electrical component - I'd suspect the CDI unit ..it may show signs of heating up on it's back where it's near the engine block...a burnt look or a slight frosting.

this might sound like a stupid question , but what do you mean " set the float" . all i did was remove the old float needle , and installed new one. and yes i cleaned it generously with a pressurized can , and compressed air.

Set the float - generally get the float bottom parallel to the body of the carb. And then adjust the cam that attaches to the needle by bending the cam -- the result being the needle is positioned to operate best over it's range of movement. Trial and error. Best to get the manual for that motor and follow it. It may or may not have been set right before you even started working on it.

Re: 2005 Mercury 8 HP 4 Stroke Issue

I know that you will tell me I am Crazy, but I have a 9.9/15 hp 2005 that would go like a bat and then just shutdown.
it would start back up with no problem. It had a 3 year old fuel line on the 3.2 gallon tank. I know that it had a quicksilver label when I bought it, but I think it was a poor quality one. Either the bulb was leaking air or the inner lining of the hose seperated and colapsed making it like a shutoff valve as the pump tried to pull fuel from the tank. I replaced it with the old original 6year old hose and didn't have any more problems!!!!! $35 or 40 gets you one

There is a known issue with those fuel lines, they didn't hold up well.

problem is , it did this before too with another fuel line, so i went and bought a new line with bulb at west marine , and still the same issue.

I have seen that series motor have trouble with the plastic float binding on the pivot pin so it will hang enough to restrict the fuel going into the bowl.

A carbkit has a new one in it but all you nead to do is make sure it moves freely an closes and opens the needle into the seat.
