Questions for you experts:
Thanks in advance.
- Mercury Outboard Model 2005 90ELPT SW (4-stroke)
- Serial number 1B185926
- ~160 hours total (60 hrs this season)
- Had water pump impeller changed at beginning of season (preventative maintenance)
Symptoms:
- Short alarm beepings the last couple of times out. Continous beep, not beep-beep-beep. And it was just for very short periods of our outings... very, very brief events.
- RPMs cut way back (automatically) during one or more of those events
- Happened at least once at lower speed and higher speed
- (Checked the manual - says that both the water temp overheat and oil pressure alarms would be continuous)
- Also noticed a burning oil smell for some short period following the alarm events, but it dispersed quickly
- Pulled the dipstick to check engine oil level (tilt in the full down position) and fluid gushed out of the reservoir. To me, it appears to be more gas-oil than water-oil...wiped off dipstick and color was that of fresh oil (not dirty with dirt/grime).
Questions for you experts:
- Think it's safe to run it from my dock to the launch ramp (~1-2 miles)?
- Before I take it to the service pro... what's your best guess?
- Any way the guy doing the impeller job (aka "service pro") could have contributed to this?
Thanks in advance.
