ratherbefishin At the time Early 90s I was talking about if you were a commercial fisherman it was legal to take steps (shoot) a sealion that was in your spreads,or gear but you could not flip one off with your finger as that was harassment and you could not harass a sea lion

Capn Mike,
I watched a sea lion tearing up a salmon at Kelly Point last week while I was sturgeon fishing. The first ones are here I think. I pretty much can't stand it. As soon as I get my kicker back together I'm going to give the sea lions a little competition.

I used to jig herring of the float down below the Gorge bridge with my dad, 50 years ago.Standard equipment was a long bamboo pole ,with a string of home tied flies. The old guys would come down every day with their poles and buckets. The ''best '' spot was the south east corner......

Oregonducker, what kind of boat do you have? I'm a 24' Striper w/blue canvas, white 200 Johnson & white Yama kicker. Haven't been to Kelly Point yet, but will probably start next Thur, even if it doesn't look good.

I read a while back that the buoy 10 area fishery on the Columnia is supposed to be a record year this time around. Not a lot of fish here in the San Juans right now, just hit and miss at best, but a few high teens lower 20# have been caught. Hope something moves in before the end of the month. Benn too windy the past few day to get out.
East Point (B.C.) was at 13 mph a few minute ago and supposed to kick up to 25mph by early afternoon.

Buoy 10 is a summer fishery...usually late July and into August. Of course, the fish are coming past buoy 10 right now, but it's a little ugly, compared to August. I just looked at the weather there http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/boatandbeach/buoy/98683?stationId=B46029 and the waves are 13.8' every 17 seconds.
Even if I was dumb enough to try, I think I might be feeding more than fishing... :( :(
I'd rather wait until they get up the river a ways, thank you!

Amen to that this time of year. Too many boats get rolled out there in nice weather as it is. By the way Capn Mike, if you see a 17' War Eagle jon boat that is all camo, including the main motor (regular blue and white evinrude 6 for trolling), with 1 or 2 guys in it wearing camo raingear and camo life jackets and arguing with an old black lab over who gets what for lunch, then you're probably looking at me. I don't travel around much during the spring run though. I have a favorite spot and tend to stay there.

They're here. Caught a nice native today. In the area of 25 pounds I'd guess. Fun Fun Fun! We'll be at it again tomorrow.

Yay! Boo! Caught an estimated 18-20' native Sunday. Had another unknown takedown, both near Kelly Point. Tomorrow the whole river opens, hopefully the temperature rises to get them all upstream.

Capn Mike,
How's it been? We got number 15 yesterday. Got 3 on Monday. One was a native. Four of those so far so 11 keepers. We even won a battle with a sea lion. It had ahold of the fish 3 or 4 times but kept letting go. We stayed right on top of it with the boat so I suppose we scared it. After it let go the first time it would grab the fish again right at the net. Wild experience to say the least. We've taken to carrying several throwing size rocks along so whenever we see one we let him have it. We've scared a couple into leaving that way. I heard there might be a closure in the Columbia soon. That will crowd up the tributaries. Oh well, get them while the getting's good I guess.
