2004 mercury verado erc

I have a 2004 mercury Verrado when you put it in gear to fast and the alarm continuously sounds and will not stop unless you shut the motor off and restart it. But if you put it in gear, real slow, it will work without the alarm going off. It doesn’t affect the way the engine runs but once it starts to beep you, have no control over the boat with the throttle forward or reverse, I understand the 2004 Verrado was the first year The Verrado was made, and will only work with one specific ERC and mercury does not make that one anymore. Anyone else ever had this issue.
