2004 Johnson 30 HP 2 stroke Overheating

I have a 2004 30 HP 2 Stroke that is overheating. I have checked an replaced the impeller. It was in good shape.
It will over heat and go into slow mode after about 20mins of running. It doesn't matter is if it running WOT or at an idle, it will do it at both ends of the spectrum.
Any thoughts?

Is it possible to install a temp gauge and any info on how to??

just because you have a tale tell does not mean the tstats are opening and cooling the block. suggest one of these, i keep one in my boat bag. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=93983

should read 140-160.
