Re: 2004 Bayliner 175....Advice Needed

We've got a Glastron GX205 and have been very happy with it. Its got the 220hp 5.0L. Its got the sport seating (2 buckets, full rear bench and sunpad). We use the sunpad all the time. Wife loves to layout on it while we anchor and kids swim. Sorry, can't help with advice on buying a holdover 2001. I did read another thread that said it was an OK deal if you keep the boat for a while.

Since the GX185 is an '01 boat, the price for '04 is irrelevant. If this were a used boat (not new) then BUCnet puts the value at about $16.5k, not including trailer. Of course the "new" warranty adds some value. Still, I would expect this '01 to be priced well under $20k.

As this is a popular boat, it is odd that it has been sitting around the showroom for 2 years! So I would ask WHY? No doubt your dealer will have a handy excuse, but still worth asking.

Only Bayliner and Glastron dealers in your area?
Kelly

I've looked at Tahoe, Maxum and Stingray along with the Bayliner and Glastron. The Glastron dealer is the best dealer out of all of them (Small town, 25 years in business, no hard sell, etc) and they have a great reputation.

I can get the '01 GX 185 for less than 17K which looks like a fantastic deal since it's new. It has everything we want and everything I have seen suggested on this thread. The lifetime hull warranty, bimini top & snap in carpet are extras I didn't expect. I don't know why it hasn't sold. It's beige with the green stripes, maybe people down here don't like the green. I noticed most of their other boats were white w/red stripes.

Anyway, I'm going to get a demo ride this week and if that goes well I'm going to sign on the dotted line. It's 3 or 4 thousand more than I wanted to spend, but you guys said "Get the 4.3", so that's what I'm going to do.

Here's a picture. This is the exact boat.

Chris

If that price includes trailer, you have a real bargain. Should ski nice too.

Kelly

It does include a matching painted tralier. Looks nice. After all I have read and gleaned from the net, this looks like a great deal. I can't pass up the chance to buy a 20K + boat when I started out looking at the $9995 Bayliner!

What a difference a week makes! I really appreciate the advice I've received here. I think I would have been sorely disappointed with the Bayliner 175 with the 3.0 when I tried to haul a few people. The more I read about this VEC hull building process, the more I think I'll be happy with the Glastron for many years. Wood free!!

Thanks for the help guys and gals. I bought the Glastron GX 185 yesterday! We took it out today and it runs like a scalded dog! I'm so glad I went with the 4.3. This boat is awesome and it looks great!

18' with a 4.3L is a good match. You'll have loads of fun. Enjoy!

Congrats - You wrote "it runs like a scalded dog!" Go easy until you have it broken in. It will last longer.

Point well taken, SoLittle. I just meant it compared to my Force 50hp! I did not even romp on the GX and it shows a lot of get up and go.
