2004 115 HP 4 stroke timing belt?

The operators manual for my Johnson 2004 115hp says that the timing belt should be changed every 500 hours. I cannot find a timing belt listed for my engine model J115PL4SR. Is there a timing belt or a timing chain?

It's listed as a timing chain and it's part # 5033665. If you're going to do this yourself get an OMC Factory Service Manual.

It was always my assumption that a timing chain would last the life of the motor

Me too but times change along with manufactures.
