2004 115 honda not starting

Have a 2004 115 honda that has performed flawlessly for 230 hrs. While fishing this week when i went to move it would not start. Starter engaged and motor turned over but would not start. Quick look after repeated attempts nothing obvious but I could smell something hot. Let it cool for 15 minutes and tried again and it started and ran fine back to the dock but while waiting to tie up at idle it keep quitting. Luckily it would restart and I got the boat back on the trailer. I also noticed when it wouldn't start that after you switched on the ignition neither the engine or battery light came on and it didn't beep twice when the key was turned on. Appreciate any advice on troubleshooting or repair anyone can give.

What's the status of the battery? Can you measure the voltage at the starter while cranking? Regarding the smell, what did it smell like? Gas, oil, plastic,wire or steam? How old is the impeller? Was there water coming out the pisser? Can you run the motor at home?
