2003 Mercury xr 6 too much water pressure

New to the forum......I noticed my 2003 Merc xr 6 (150hp) was showing 30 psi on my pressure gauge. I installed a new water pump kit and the results are the same. I am getting this reading at idle.
I haven't "ran" my boat yet this year. I've only had it on a small lake at idle speed and running it on ear muffs after replacing the water pump. Any ideas? I'm a little concerned with taking it to the main lake and running wot before I know if this could be a major problem. Thanks.

Check to see if the poppit valve is working properly.

restriction in flow somewhere...30 lbs at idle indicates a significant obstruction... could be air but that usually makes it fluctuate.. was tha impeller in one piece when ya changed it?...what did water pump gaskets (all of 'em) look like when ya took it apart?..did ya get a "high temp" alarm?...hard ta find ona keyboard....
