2003 4 Stroke Mercury Problems 90HP

My 2003 4 Stroke Mercury 90HP is having some problems as it will only run for 10 seconds and cut off. I tried changing the plugs and the same thing. I took it into the shop and the dealer is telling me that there is a problem with possible dirt or corrosion in the carbs. The gas is fine as I am using the same stuff on both boats. They are telling me they might need to rebuild the carbs and it could cost around $1000.00 for the work as it is very involved. The fuel filter looks in good condition. What are you thougts? He said it is possible for dirt and corrosion to liquify and gell up later causing problems.

The dealer called and said I had a clogged vacuum line that was causing the motor to flood. He cleard the clog and changed the oil. It turned out to be a cheap fix.
