I have a problem with my outboard, when I accellerate at about 1/2 speed I get a whinning noise and it seems like the prop is slipping. I have checked the lower end oil and it seems ok and the prop and nut that hold it in place are good.Any hints or suggestion as to what is wrong? Thanks Braves 63

I'm no expert, but it might be a spun hub. There is a plastic piece that is on the prop shaft (or somewhere in there) that will give before damage occurs to the prop or shaft. I would take the prop off and look for any chipped pieces of plastic.

Thanks Matt, I already suspected a spun prop from my reading similar thread on line .Thanks a lot and I didn't find any pieces of plastic when I checked prop.

Are you sure it's not a cavitation problem? Meaning the prop isn't biting any water. My friend had a Carolina Skiff with a 20" transom, and a motor with a 15" shaft. Under heavy acceleration the prop would spin and catch randomly due to not "biting" any water. He cut a 3" notch out of the transom and fixed the problem.

you might try marking the hub and running it again. If the marks don't line up it is likely slipping...............Jerry
