I have a 2002 Yamaha F25 ELHA outboard motor. The problem I am having is the motor will bog down and act as if it is in a protection mode after a few minutes of running. It will crank fine and run wide open for 2 to 5 minutes then it will bog down and will not run past an idle. I do not know if it has a protection mode on it or not. It is a tiller steer and only has a warning light which does not come on. I have checked all the fuel lines. Changed the fuel bulb and fuel filter. Cleaned the carburetor and jets. This make me think it is an electrical problem. I took off the thermostat and it seems to be working fine. I'm about to put the thermostat back on and take it back out to see if cleaning it helped any. I think maybe it could be a bad fuel pump or sensors? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

No light = no protection mode. Protection mode will allow up to 2000 rpm. Have you checked the fuel delivery? There is an in line fuel filter. You could try running on a different tank and hose.

I have replaced the in line fuel filter. It seems like it is getting plenty of gas. I checked the thermostat and the fuel pump and both seemed to be working correctly. Could it be a bad sensor somewhere?
