2002 Rinker fiesta 242 has no hour meter?

I went to look at this boat (2002 Rinker fiesta 242 mercruiser 5.7) and the owner told me he was the second owner and the engine had no hour meter....is this a scam? Wouldn't that be standard on ANY cruiser that size and year? This guy said he was handy and did a lot of work on it himself, why wouldn't you add an hour meter? Is this a warning flag?

hour meters are options, a lot of boats don't have them. buy the way, nice boat, and drive combo.
