Re: 2002 Johnson 175 After shutting off won't restart
I had the extact problem - this is what I did to isolate the problem:
1. checked idle speed setting - this was OK on mine
2. checked the carburetor throttle plate linkage and engine timing advance, a procedure known as "sync and link;" - This was OK on mine
3. checked the throttle cam roller to insure it was intact - This roller was intact and GOOD condition
4. Checked for a "vacuum leak" - this procedure is done by spraying WD40 in carburetor joint, Crank case joint and then the head gasket joint. This is done one at a time - If there is leakage then you RPM's will increase. Therefore you'll have to fix the leak - NO LEAK FOUND.
5. Lastly, Checked compression and plugs. WELL - here was the problem - compression was good. I had one wrong plug which brunt the ignition coil. Therefore, the solution was the replace the wrong plug and ignition coil clean and gap the remaining plugs.
