I have a Johnson 2002 150 2 stroke outboard. I had 2-stroke oil leaking down the front of the engine and difficulty starting the engine after sitting for an a period of time and still warm. The mechanic diagnosed it as a cracked VRO pump. The engine ran great after the pump was replaced.

The problem has reocurred after having difficulty starting the engine after running it for an hour and discovering oil on the inside of the engine cowling again. I took the new VRO pump off, made sure all of its assembly screws were adequetly tightened, trimmed cleaned the oil line that attached to the pump and mounted the pump back on the engine.

Is there anything else I should be looking for when it comes to 2-stoke oil leaking from the front of the engine? Are these engines know for this problem?

I'm at a loss on this one.

Please help.

Thanks,

Mark

You carburetors may need attention. Leaking needle/seat valves will spill fuel from the carb. mouths and can create an overly rich condition on start up.

The only fix is to disassemble/clean and rebuild them.
