Trying to get my trim guage working. 2001 v4 130 2 stroke. New old stock digital tach/trim guage combo. Just getting the bottom bar lit up on guage after powering on. Got another sensor and still not reading at guage. New sensor reads 276 Ohms at 1 position then smoothly changes to 4 Ohms at other position. Meter leads red lead to pink black lead to black. This is with sensor plug unplugged. Other side of plug going up to the guage has pink black and orange. There is a grey pigtail female connector coming off the sensor connector. Here's a picture of my sensor. What else to check?

In the tachometer set for a two wire sender?

What is the complete ID of your motor?

Wasn't aware that you can set the tach for trim sender wires. If you zoom in you can see the tach better

Were you able to get the tachometer and oil status bars to function?

That is an older tachometer. Might have had round connectors on it instead of later style square connectors.

Yamaha had three wire trim senders (pre 2001) and two wire senders (2001 and later). Yours being the latter. Don't think your tachometer has the capability of switching from a three wire sender to a two wire sender and vice versa.

Yes round connectors. I had to get these adapters shown below. Tach and oil status work fine.

If I want just a single analog guage anyone know which part number to get?

That looks to me like a trim gauge for an older three wire sender.

Ground the gauge on the black wire and apply battery voltage to the yellow wire. Then measure the orange wire and see if it reads 5 volts.

Three wire senders interfaced with three wire gauges. With the third wire being voltage provided by the tachometer. On the orange wire.'

If you look at your tachometer you will see the orange wire. With power and ground applied to your tachometer I suspect you will measure 5 volts on that orange wire. That 5 volts was used to provide the trim sender with voltage.

Ok. So a 3 wire guage won't work with my sender?

Looking at part number Yamaha 6Y5-83670-12-00

States 2 wire sender guage. Do I still use my existing harness to go from motor to guage? Harness has an orange wire in the 4 spot plug connector.

Damn. Yamaha is proud of their stuff.

That gauge should work. Won't be plug and play however. You will just have to figure out how to get the pink wire from the sender to the harness and to the gauge.

The orange wire won't be in use.
