I think you have answered most of your own questions Paul.

That's a walk away for me. A boat this age shouldn't need this kind of re-work. 6 starters in 8 months???
IMHO - 10ft beam and a single engine.....no way. Should be twins. Minimum 4.3 but my preference would be 5.7 Mercs, but looking at the transom design, that wouldn't be possible. Just not a fan of Volvo`s
tpenfield had the best idea in that a boat like that should have twin OB`s in around the 225 size. Enough power to get you out of trouble when the weather turns rough. Just my opinion though.
