I just bought a 2001 Tahoe to move my 19Ft SeaRay back and forth to the lake. Last week when I was backing up the surge brakes locked up on me. I never had a problem when I towed it with my 2005 Envoy. It is a Shorelandr Trailer with a 5 point wiring harness and I am using a 7 point adapter.
Please help?

Your 7 to 5 adapter may not be routing the reverse signal to the 5th wire. It instead may be routing the electric brake signal. You need to check which one.

Also check the trailer grounds. And the back-up pin on the tow vehicle. No power or ground there means no lockout.

Bag the adapter and install a 7 pin on the trailer.

FWIW: The solenoid wire goes to the center pin (back-up) on the 7 pin.

Bingo Dingbat. You can't use adapters with back up cutouts/solenoids. Wire the trailer for 7 pin! (This must be at least the 5th time I've said this in the last month...)

I use a 7-pin to 5/4-pin adapter with my Explorer and it activates the reverse solenoid no problem.
