If your boat only weighs 500#, then you are way under propped and your engine is is maxing out rpm to the limiter with only a 15P prop. Merc prop selector suggest 25p for 500# boat and 300# load and speeds over 50 mph at 5800 rpm.

damn just getting back onto this forum. My moter isnt a 4 stroke its a 2 stroke. would that make a difference?

Yeah, you need a new prop. Probably a new engine as well. Its not suitable for your little boat.

Spoke to a Mercury Marine dealer yesterday, he didnt see any issues with having that motor on my boat, will be testing the WOT RPM to see if i need to go from a 15p prop to 17 or 19, the post above saying i need a 25p prop is way off base

I boat can handle up to a 90hp engine, the RPM at WOT i haven't figured out yet, have to replace a starter solenoid tonight when i get down there. From what i can guess at at WOT and motor trimmed out would be roughly between 5850 to 6000. hence why he said i needed a slightly bigger pitch prop but will know more details about it hopefully tonight!. My boat has the long transom not a short transom
