Job complete, problem solved, issue resolved. Got the other coupler tube, coupling tube, Seal, whatever you want to call it, and it was slightly longer, and a bit tapered at the top outside end, which went up in to the water tube. Install was fast, and MAN did the water pump strong. The tell tale pee stream could almost move the boat on it's own, at idle. Ran all day with no issues. Thanks all.

now, Dec 2015, overheating again, so Now having to replace water pump again. wanted to review this post 1st and realize the final solution was not listed. It turns out the new water PUMP CONNECTOR tube, attaching to the water pump output on top, was too short, to reach the water tube in the shaft housing. I did finally buy the longer connector tube (only an inch or 2 or so longer) and that solved problem. NOTE: the OEM water pump kit from Mercury, had only the shorter tube (white one in picture above). so grab and save you current water tube connector! (mine stayed lightly stuck to the water tube in the shaft and did not come out with the pump, So I had no idea it was up there, and while checking things later, it dropped deep in the muck of the water, could not find it, So I did not have the original to compare to.Bought a longer one and all was well.
