George, That is a fine engine, don't whack it yet.
First put a timing light on all cylinders when running at idle. If it has spark to only two plugs, it is likely your S.L.O.W. system is malfunctioning. You can disconnect the temperature sensor at the power pack and see if it improves. If so, and the motor is not overheating, replace the temperature sensor. If not, take a compression test. The cylinders should all be 100+PSI and even. if not, you have some internal damage.
If neither of those things ar problems, you likely have dirty carbs. They will need to be disasembled, cleaned and new gaskets and inlet needles installed.
