I am dewinterizing my boat and have ran into a problem starting it, it is a 2001 Johnson 150hp. I first connected the battery and got nothing, so tried to jump it. I started to get a little power then when I went to crank it nothing again. I got a new battery and fuses for the connections on the positive wires going to the battery. Turned the key got power to the gauges, then went to crank it heard a click and then lost all power. Tried to trickle charge it and when it was charged got no power. Please help really would like to not take it in to a shop but also not the most motor savvy. Thank you.

Check your battery connections at both ends of the cables; should be clean and shiny bright for both cables. Good luck.

good battery and your gauges work till you turn the key is a classic sign of a bad connection in the positive or negative cable. the one on the starter solinoid and the one on the block under the cowling. once these are clean the short wire from the solinoid to the starter is next

What condition are the battery cables themselves in if you bend them do they "crunch" which would be corrosion inside the cable itself. You have a serious bad connection or corroded cables it would seem.
