Had the boat out the other day and noticed a vibration in the floor when turning at about 30 MPH to the right. Going straight seemed OK. Later in the day it would vibrate turning left or right.

So got it home pulled the outdrive. Expecting to find bad u-joint. All U-joints feel tight. I had my son put pry bar through u-Joint to hold Input shaft while I tried to turn prop with lower unit in reverse. Could not turn prop in reverse Same results with lower unit in forward.

Put the drive back on the boat. When the boat is in gear either forward or reverse I can spin the prop either forward or reverse depending on which gear its it about 2 1/2 times before it locks up and can't spin it any more

Is this normal with this drive or do I have an engine coupler issue or?

Thanks

Did u check the gimbal bearing while drive was off? Unless you got water in bellows ujoints last forever…

not sure with the cone clutch on your drive but makes sense it would take a turn-or two to seat the cone clutch

Do you have an alignment tool? I’d check your alignment and your gimbal bearing to make sure it turns smoothly.

I do have access to an alignment tool. I do plan to check that next week when I can get the tool. Gimbal bearing turns smooth and has plenty of grease.

Bellows look good no evidence of water. Not sure how the cone clutch works on these drives

Does it make a growling noise when turning? Vibrations and noise in a turn usually point to the Gimbal Bearing and they can "feel" just fine. Tuff call when everything looks good. I would put a grease gun to it and see if it's better when filled up.

I did not notice a growling noise just the vibration.

I got the alignment tool today. Goes in easy turns easy pulls out hard though.
