2001 Evinrude 150HP Cuts out when shifted

I have a 2001 150hp Evinrude, great motor but I have developed a problem. It just started doing this, when I start it and put in neutral it runs and revs fine ,but when I go forward with the trottle to drive it immediately stalls. This also happens when going to reverse. It was intermitant until today. I stared it up took off made a couple 1/2 trotted passes then shut it off. When I did it never ran again. it would start then stall when put in gear. My dealer has run all the tests but can not solve. any Ideas ?

What tests has the dealer made? Are the carbs clean? Has he by-passed the shift interrupter switch? Does it lose spark? How old is the fuel?

He hooked up computer to see all info from motor, it did not show anything abnormal. He checked neutral switch and so did I, but switch interupts starter not ignition so it can't cut out motor, as far as fuel goes I have been filling it all summer and it runs great and idles smooth. When it dies when shifter is pushed forward or reverse it does not sputter it just cuts off.

Are you confusing the neutral safety switch with the shift interrupter switch. 2 different thangs.

sounds like it and i would like to know where is that switch is located at.. and how to test it.. since i have the same motor..

This motor have carbs or fuel injection. Carb engine does not a have computer connection.

click link, select yr and HP.
select "cylinder and crankcase" from menu,
shift assist switch is at the bottom of pic.

I did not know of the shift switch, this sounds like where my problem is coming from. I will call the dealer Tues. and ask if this was checked. I was towed back there on Sunday.

My '99 150 Johnson might have a problem with the shift interrruptor switch. It runs fine all day but will stall when put into neutral while docking. This is after running at no wake speeds for 5 minutes or so. It will start right back up and run fine every time.

The question was asked in this thread: where is the shift interrruptor switch located please?
