Re: 2001 astro 4.3l vortec

Bring no 1 up on COMPRESION stroke.... must be on COMPRESION stroke. Drop dist in with rotor pointing to number 1 on cap.

Back up.....Go ahead and pull the dist back out.... then place a mark on the body of the dist where No 1 plug wire is..... then take cap off.... now back to the motor... go back as first stated.... No 1 and so on

Now look and see if timming marks are lined up on the crank..... if so good......now drop dist in (Cap Off) with the rotor lined up with the mark on body. You want the rotor pointing in about the 5 oclock position. looking from the front to back of motor. Make sure it drops in all the way. If not take out and turn the oil pump shaft a bit. Try again.

Now snug up your hold down bolt...so you can still spin the dist....install cap back on, now place your wires back on cap starting with the number 1 that you marked and so on.....

Now try and start it. May have to move the dist a bit to get it to fire..

Final step set the timing.

Good Luck!
