I have a chance to buy a left over 2001 90 HP Ocean Pro, new in the crate. I know OMC was in bad financial straights at that time, but should this engine be avoided? Best I can make out is that these venerable two strokes were still OK. If I get it, should I run it with VRO?

Opinions?

Thanks.

Those 60 degree motors (both V4 and V6) have a very good reputation. It was the FICHT models of '98 and '99 that ruined the OMC reputation.

If the motor has never been registered or was a dealer demo, Bombardier will warranty the motor for its original time period of 1 year.

markl.....by 2001 Bombardier was in control of OMC, so that motor should be a good motor and I'm sure you would be happy with it. In my opinion the VRO (OMS) system is very good, the 2001 model of VRO is the most updated( 4 wire) so you won't have the problems of the earlier ones. I have never had any problems with VRO pumps on any of my motors, from the 1st generation till the newest ones, I think most of the fear people have is hearsay instaed of actual bad experience. Good luck with the motor.
