Recently had an engine fire in a 2001 80HP F80TRLA engine. Could the fire start at the CDI box or could a faulty carb. be to blame? Still turns over but CDI power pack is melted as well as silencer assy. in front of the CDI. Not much other damage, wiring is not melted anywhere, block has blackened paint where CDI was bolted.

Could the block be damaged from the small fire, that was short and extinguished quickly.

Any and all thoughts, questions and comments are welcome, I would like to fix but don't want to buy parts I don't need

I have read before about rectifier/regulators overheating and catching on fire and taking out the CDI/ECU on some Yamaha motors.
Bad connections at battery or other places can cause it from what has been written
