This motor went into SLOW after a short run. The LED and horn system does not work on the boat.
The VRO was leaking and therefore suspect. Changed the VRO for the standard fuel pump and running 50:1. Temperatures are good. The motor now runs for a much shorter time before the SLOW kicks in. Indicates that we are possibly on the right track.
On earlier motors simply disconnecting the VRO and oil tank electrics shut down the warning signal.
I have a feeling that this later VRO/ power pack arrangement may require me to link something out.
As routine service the carb's have been cleaned and rebuilt. Comps are 128.130.128. Sparks are strong and has a new CDI power pack fitted. Motor starts easily and runs well in the tub.
Can anyone advise me on this.

I thought I read once that you need to ground the tan wire that went to the vro harness.

Might try that, otherwise go with the earlier made power pack

Thanks for the responses.
The impeller and cooling are fine. Grounding the tan wire may do it.
Just need to fool the power pack that the oil tank is full and the oil is flowing through the VRO. The schematics in my manual are not clear and the workings of the VRO 2 system is not there..

Good luck with the motor.----Usually the VRO plug for the " no oil alarm " is disconnected .----All that needs to be done.----Have you removed the pulse limiter ?---Part # of the replacement fuel pump ?

You dont need to do anything with VRO harness. Unplug the tan wire off pack tied into overheat sensor, and retest as thats what triggers SLOW. Check the t-stat/poppet assy. The VRO's never had a feature to trigger SLOW, just horns and lights

Thanks a bunch guys. From your information it could be a defective temp sensor. Will look into that and let you know.

Temp sensor is unavailable, at least new that is.

This problem sure happens a lot with what seems to be no resolution.

Pulse limiter and thermo/Poppet were discussed. Have you checked those?

What years had the diode issue in the harness?

Thanks for all your interest guys.
I stand corrected on the oil warning system causing SLOW. Thanks for that info. I have the boat back now and have removed the Thermostat /Vernitherm set up. A small amount of weed type contamination but not much. Tested the Vernitherm in hot water and it extended but did but did not retract. I expected the similar response to the test that the standard thermostats have.
Please correct me if I am wrong but I see the operation as the Vernitherm unseats from the diaphragm when heated and allows water flow. High pump pressure causes the diaphragm to flex unseating from the vernitherm.
Therefore if the vernitherm does not operate only high water pressure will provide cooling. Seems simple but I may be wrong. Please help me on this one. I will order a new Vernitherm anyway. I will disconnect the Temp sensor to ensure that Temp is the cause of the SLOW .
