I have a 2001 Baja 6.2 with a bravo 1 and Im having a problem when the boat is under acceleration or load an alarm (single one beep) goes off at the same time the engine loses power for a moment then returns to to normal. Boat starts fine and seams to run fine out of the water in the drive way. I'm noticing the voltage is getting low on the guage. But the battery and alternator seam to be working properly.

sounds like the engine is throwing a code, and the resulting in the engine being put in "guardian mode" which reduces power to protect the engine. The quickest and fastest solution to this problem is to have the engine hooked up to a laptop or a mercruiser scan tool. I know that's not what you want to hear, but it will get you back in shape the fastest. There are many sensors that will put the engine in to guardian mode.. block pressure sensor, oil pressure, temperature sender, throttle position sensor, crankshaft position sensor....the list and various combination's will have you pulling wires and guessing for a long time.

Also, since you mentioned voltage, those engines require a lot more voltage to run properly, and they are very sensitive.

Bottom line here is, your engine computer has a code in it, find out what it is.

PS. If you don't have smartcraft gauges, your engine will automatically have all of those codes stored inside them. I think its 5 total, maybe 6. I don't remember. Just ignore those.

Thanks that makes sense, I guess I'll take it to the local shop and have them scan it. Or is this something I can do with my own laptop? If so what do I need?

The MEDS program from CDI that would do your engine is like 3000 dollars or so..

Here's what you need to scan it: http://www.rinda.com/marine/mtspec.htm They're about $400.....but.....unless you're a boat mechanic I'd just leave it to the experts.

Take it to your shop, but put a full charge on the battery first and see if that does anything...especially if you have a single battery. The 'puter is somewhat finicky when it doesn't have enough juice.

yea that link that was posted, thats the mercruiser scan tool I was talking about. It is very usefull but the laptop can get the job done quicker, and you can see a lot more than just codes with it.

For 400 dollars though...you'll spend less than that getting it scanned at a dealer/shop and replacing a sensor
