Hello Gents,

I just dragged my dad's boat 1350 miles to Marathon from NJ and I cant get the engine to fire up....which is very odd for this engine. It was winterized in November and was running fine when put to bed...every year I drag her down here she fires right back up...I checked spark in two plugs, 1 on each side and I have spark....I replaced the plugs for good measure..put a new spin on filter and filled it with fresh gas. I do have a crappy primer ball and I am not able to push fuel into the onboard clear fuel bowl..but there is some gas in the filter bowl, which I cleaned in november when winterizing the engine..any suggestions would be appreciated as I am only in town for a few days and would like to get out fishing....thanks!

If you have a "have a crappy primer ball and I am not able to push fuel into the onboard clear fuel bowl" then replace it.

I use a spray bottle with a little premix in it to resolve fuel starting issues..works for me...

Start with this, also look for a red/yellow wire under the ECU for good connection, test fuel pump resistor but start with this:

Do you hear the electric fuel pump run?

It is very common for the pump to "freeze up" over the winter, especially if the fuel was not treated with a stabilizer additive and/or water or phase-separation sits in the vapor separator tank and rusts the pump.

Gents,

Thanks for the info. We checked what was within our technical abilities this morning..replaced the primer ball and the fuel filter element...no luck..dragged her around to the Yamaha Dealer at CoCoPlumb around lunch time. Stopped on the way back and rented a boat figuring they would have it for a day or two...got out fishing this afternoon in Florida bay and caught some bluefish and mackeral along with pin fish, etc.....OK..Yamaha dealer called us about 4 pm..boat was running fine..turns out the check valve in between the fuel filter and the VST tank was stuck closed...they removed the valve and installed a hose barb and checked the rest of the system..everything was within spec....they launched the boat and took her for a ride...we flew back to the dock and made it to the dealer before they closed...boat ran like a champ back to the dock....plan to hit it hard tomorrow after we take the rental boat back...thanks again!

did they replace the check valve or leave the hose barb...you need that check valve or fuel can drain out of your line and cause premature wear on your fuel pump from sucking air...at least that is what I was told about my 4 stroke motor anyway..I assume your OX66 is the same. I hope you limit out on fish..good luck. wish I was there too

I sure do hope you have a good time and the weather cooperates. While you are there, be sure to go to the STUFFED PIG for breakfast, on the corner across from the HOME DEPOT. Go in the back, outside. For dinner, at the end off that same side street is a very good fish house, restaurant. If you get in another pinch and the YAMAHA dealer can not accomidate you, go next door to the HOME DEPOT, behind the building that says ATTORNEY GENERAL. There is a marina there. Ask for MIKE the mechanic, he is YAMAHA certified and will take care of you. The pretty little woman with the long brunet hair is his wife SHELLY. Hard to believe, she is a welder. Nice people , fun to go bar hopping with.
Where about in JERSEY? Spent most of my life in JAMESBURG, EAST BRUNSWICK area. regards FRED
