I am new to this site and there seems to be a lot of good advice given on many different topics. I have a 2000 Chris-Craft w/ a Volvo 5.0 & SX Drive that has never given me any problems. However the trim gauge stopped working some time ago and I recently looked into it. The wires were broken at the sending unit which seemed to be a common problem per info read, so I ordered and installed a new sender which did not solve the problem. I did ohm out the sender before installing it and it worked perfect. I then checked the gauge by jumping off of the gas gauge and the trim gauge moved accordingly. I have power at the gauge and a new sender but no movement on the gauge when trimming the outdrive. Please help, any advice would be appreciated.

Did you manually adjust the sender to 11 ohms before installing it? that way it gets you in the ball park. Then re-adjust.

I did not adjust the sender to any specific ohms but I did verify it was working before installing it. After all was hooked up I even tried removing the sender from the drive with the motor running and my wife watching the gauge while I rotated the sender indicator 360 degrees to no avail. I'm not sure what else to do but I would like to have the trim indicator working. It's funny b/c when calling repair shops to question the repair of a trim sender/gauge the mechanics almost want to laugh; "you want to pay to repair what...." Any help/advice is appreciated. I'm not giving in just yet. Thanks.

Are you sure you got the wires hooked up correctly where they hook together in the engine compartment.

Yes, but what is strange is that there are three wires off the sender that plug into a two-pin plug at the wiring harness. I assumed the white wire is not being used. Blk to blk and Blk w/ brown to Brown w/ white. The sender ohmed out with only using the blk and blk/br wires?????

I am very curious on how your repair turns out. I have the same boat with the same engine, and exact same problem. Mine stopped working about 2 years ago, and would love to get it working again. My guage moves, but not with any accuracy.

I am looking into my trim sender not working and found the wires are cut in the engine compartment.... trying to find where the wires hook up any ideas?
